A bit noisy due to the train lines, but a good transit stop when heading to southern Italy, but be sure to visit Orvieto town – it’s lovely!

( votes)We visited the Orvieto camper stop in May this year en route from Pompeii to Florence. This “aree di camper” is conveniently located closed to the A1 motorway. This ensures the sosta is convenient stop over. However, there is downside in the form of noise. The sosta is located adjacent to the high-speed rail line with a very high frequency of trains passing by. Strangely enough though, we did not notice it.
Orvieto Camper Stop – facilities
The sosta has a shower block with spotlessly clean facilities and very hot water. There is also a washing machine. The cost of staying at the Orvieto Camper Stop os presently eighteen euro per night including use of the facilities and electrical hook up. The motorhome service point is very easy to access and caters for any size vehicle, including coaches.
Whilst some sostas and aires clearly state “no caravans”, the Orvieto Camper Stop goes against the grain and makes a point of welcoming motorhomers and caravanners alike. That said, we have yet to see a caravan in residence, but there is always a first time!
Caravans welcome!
Orvieto is a delight to visit. However, the train service to Rome takes just over one hour and so this might be a better option for some than driving to one of Rome’s campsites. This website gives a lot more information about the town.
