An early morning start from the Whitemead Caravan Park sees us starting out for Condor Ferries day trip to Guernsey. A train from Wool to Poole and a 15 minutes or so stroll to the port saw us in good time for check in. Check in was quick and easy, and we were immediately able to proceed to the departure area. Straightaway, we were on to the port bus for transfer along the quayside. Embarkation to the Condor Liberation is via a walk onto via car deck and up the stairs. I made a bee-line for the sun deck in order to snatch this photo’ of the Brittany Ferry, the “Barfleur”. She takes charge of their service to Cherbourg.
Loading of cars was complete and we left the berth some twenty minutes early, arriving in Guernsey with the same margin. The vessel was well loaded with vehicles and an “estimate” of 100 foot passengers. A Condor Ferries day trip to Guernsey from Poole allows foot passengers about four hours ashore. This is not a great deal of time, but plenty for a stroll around St Peter Port. We enjoy sitting at the lighthouse whilst tucking into a picnic!
The return crossing was equally prompt in departing Guernsey, with a very slight motion of the vessel in what appeared to be a fairly fresh wind. The craft was well loaded and at a guess, 200 or so foot passengers added to compliment. Many of these being coach holiday passengers who later boarded coaches at Poole.
