Stena Europe – minicruise to Rosslare!

Crossing the Irish Sea twice per day between Fishguard and Rosslare, the Stena Europe is a fine example of how an older Lady of the Seas, (she is almost 35 years old), can put the young ‘uns to shame in terms and style and comfort.

One of the best features of an older ship like the Stena Europe is her outside deck space. You can be outside near the front, the sides and the back. It’s possible to walk all the way around the deck for exercise! The latter reminds me of my days on the SS Canberra, strolling the “morning mile”. On board, the Stena Europe is in lovely order, with solid wooden doors in some areas, polished handrails and plush carpets. Free wifi is available and offers a reliable connection. Movies are shown free of charge, and on the outward crossing this was in the Barrista Coffee Bar.  On the return, the film was shown in the reclining seat lounge. Again, she almost has a feel of the S S Canberra

Embarkation at Fishguard was via a walkway, whilst at Rosslare, disembarkation was via a bus which was brought on to the vehicle decks.

Shortly after boarding, the engines powered and….. Remember, she is an old lady, so excuse the clag!

The ship was lightly loaded, but the return in particular had a good number of trucks on board. In fact, the return crossing was a few minutes late in leaving. Stena sent a text message updating passengers about the very slight delay. Observing, maybe this was due to a lot of freight on board.

Stena Europe – good value meals on the 21:15

Interestingly, hot meals are  on offer at just £5 on the return crossing – this seems to be a regular “offer” on the 2115 service.

Booking details and prices are available on the Stena Line website
