A question often asked is “why do you prefer the motorhome to a caravan?” There is no easy answer to this. Those who visit this page regularly will recall I looked at a Swift Conqueror caravan back in 2011. Read this page on the Motorhome Voyager website to learn about my findings.
In a few words, I prefer the motorhome due to its tremendous payload. I like the fact that water tanks are on board and I also think it is quicker and easier to pitch up and decamp with a motorhome than a caravan.
The subject of whether to caravan or whether to motorhome is often asked on internet chat groups/forums and so I posed a task for users of “Caravan Talk” – come up with 101 questions about motorhomes vice caravans. Many questions were raised from forum members. With assistance from an experienced caravanner and also others who have had both caravans and motorhomers, the questions were answered.
Motorhome or caravan – 101 questions?
Full details of the question and answers can be found on the Caravan Talk website. Click here to read the entire article.
The article was time-consuming to produce, but comes with thanks to the contributors/”quiz masters” at Caravan Talk, and also Geoff, Annette, Jock, Mavis, Sonja and others for their kind assistance in responding!
My own advice for anyone thinking of taking a step into the motorhome world would be to hire one first. Some firms actually hire and sell motorhomes, some offer discounts on the hire if you then purchase.
Thanks for the mention above Russell.
Having read the article (good work), unlike Geoff, I feel that many caravanners take up MH’ing, but much later in life. Very few go from MH’ing to caravanning.
Cheers,
Jock.
The benefit I have found from caravanning is the ability to unhook the caravan, whether it is at a pitch on a site, in the middle of the woods, in the middle of nowhere or wherever. The ability to explore the surrounding area in a small light vehicle really pays dividends. Especially in very very tight areas with narrow lanes and tiny humpback bridges. I have seen some motorhome guys transcend such roads with an inch to spare either side, so of course it can be done in motorhome aswell, its just less stressful in the car (I find). On the other hand on long journey’s across Europe the motorhome is king. So they both have their plus points.
I’m searching for a motor home with a bedroom and bathroom with decent storage , And of course at a great price , I need to live in this whilst Inbetween moves and want to take it away during the winter prob abroad so heating is important too , Any suggestions ?? Regards DH
Hi – the question is really what works for you. For regular use, I’d say a fixed bed is essential.
