( votes)This Draper 150 watt inverter was recommended to me by a friend. In the past, I had made use of a small inverter manufacturer by “Ring”. Whilst this device does what it says on the tin, it is noisy in use. This is due to the inverter having a built-in fan that operates constantly when the inverter is in use. In addition to the noise, the fan was also using 12 volt power, so it seemed somewhat of a waste of my on board power, as well as an annoyance.
The Draper 150 watt inverter was on a special deal at Amazon for about £15. Ordered online, the parcel arrived a few days later. The Draper inverter is better than the Ring version in so far as there is no fan, so silence ensues. Furthermore, the inverter is the same width as a soft drinks can. When is use in the motorhome, we can stand the Draper inverter in the drinks holder! This is ideal when charging gadgets when on the move.
Draper have their own website – but note the price of the inverter. It is far cheaper to order via Amazon.
The gadget also “feels” right, solid and quite heavy, adding to the quality look of this item.
Why carry the Draper 150 watt inverter in a motorhome?
If you are wondering why we carry an inverter on board, its uses are two-fold. Firstly, when wild camping and without electric hook up, it enables us to use 230 volt mains appliances from the 12 volt leisure battery supply. Similarly, when driving, we can recharge items such as the lap top and mobile phone. This ensures we are prepared and ready for the next non-hook up night stop. Always take care not to exceed the rating of either the inverter or the 12 volt power socket.
