With the refurbishment of our Scania Irizar coach nearing completion, one final task relates to cooking facilities. We already have a microwave oven on board and this works when connected to mains hook up, when driving or when wild camping, making use of battery power. After researching the market and looking at gas hobs, we decided to break the mould and fit an electric hob.
We have no real requirement for four cooking rings and a Google search revealed many different two burner stoves available. We chose a model that comes with a 13 amp plug and has no requirement for “hard wiring”. Like the microwave oven, we use the hot plate when connected to the mains supply or via the onboard battery bank.
Care must be taken though if you are considering an electric cooking system. You will require an inverter capable of delivering sufficient 230v power, but also a battery bank able to support the same.
