( votes)The Kontiki 679 has two television points. There is one at the front in the lounge area – this is home to our Avtex 24 inch model. The second television point is at the rear, at the foot of the bed. The latter had been home to a rather ageing mains-only television, but this had given up the ghost in recent times. Since we make more and more use of our on board solar panels and rely less on hook up, it was sensible to purchase a twelve volt television. As a result of these requirements, the Finlux 12v TV DVD ticks all our boxes. .
Ordered on-line through Amazon/Finlux Direct, the TV was delivered the next working day. Despite the fairly low price of £130, the Finlux 12v TV DVD has many features:
- Quick release stand – no screwdriver required. We like this feature as we take the TV outdoors sometimes, thus we make use of the stand. Indoors, on the swing arm bracket, there is of course no requirement for the stand.
- DVD player
- Remote control
- 12 volt power connector
- 230 volt power connector
- RCA connection point
- 2 x HDMI connectors
- UHF connector
- Scart outlet
- USB socket
Finlux 12v TV DVD – excellent picture quality!
The picture quality is very good, in fact almost on a par with the Avtex. Viewing from a different angle does not affect the enjoyment of the visual display. The sound is OK, nothing spectacular and not as good as the Avtex. However, this 22 inch TV cost us approximately a third of the price of the Avtex, so it’s horses for courses!
The Finlux consumes 22 watts of electricity per hour, so less than a tenth of an ampere when on 230v supply and about two amps when on the 12v supply.
This website offers many reviews about the Finlux whilst you can also see more details and place an order through Amazon.
Set up and connection is easy, following the instructions on screen. This Finlux 12 volt television is definitely worth the money. We hope it will enjoy it’s travels!
At the front of the motorhome, we have the more expensive Avtex system. It sounds a lot better and has the built in satellite receiver. Read our Avtex review here.
