( votes)Many years ago, after purchasing my first ‘van, I was looking for a fairly local place to spend a night or two. Ideally a location with a sea view and fairly local. A fellow motorhomer suggested one such place, a small site at Robin Hoods Bay. At the same time, he mentioned a book by the name of Sea View Camping. At the time, I was able to acquire a copy but I do recall it was text only, thus without photographs.
In more recent times, during a train journey along the North Wales Coast I spotted a lovely sea view campsite. However, I had no idea of its exact location, let alone the name of it! With help from users of the Caravan Talk website, I was able to locate the caravan site. The talk about sea views seemed to act as a memory jogger for the Sea View Camping book.
Purchasing your copy of Sea View Camping
After a search on-line, I was able to purchase a copy. I noted that both the sites mentioned above, from several years ago and also more recently the site along the North Wales Coast are listed, along with colour photographs of each site. Each of the sites listed has a general description of the location. There are various symbols depicting the on site facilities. Particularly useful is a symbol that looks similar to a bus. This is used to indicate large vehicles and is a “must” for tag owners. The blurb associated with the bus symbol states “large vehicle – Motorhomes/caravans/5th wheelers. Campsites were checked for accessibility and the owners/managers were asked whether large vehicles were accommodated on site. Access should be possible for competent and experienced drivers”
There is also a “£” symbol that gives a representative cost of a stay at the site which is useful when comparing one place to another.
I have not seen a copy of Sea View Camping in stores on the high street. Consequently, it is a task for the keyboard to find! I ordered mine from Amazon and it was delivered two days later.
I also have find memories of staying at a camp site at Robin Hood’s Bay in the 70’s. It’s great when you find a book that matches your memories. 🙂
