( votes)We did not have a reservation at Camping Bagatelle but we had telephoned in advance to enquire as to whether there were any pitches of a suitable size for the Kontiki. We were not disappointed in this respect.
Camping Bagatelle is approximately a ten minute walk from the Pont D’Avignon and also the Papal Palace. The site itself is close to the banks of the Rover Rhone. Most of the site is well shaded by mature trees. The shade was most welcome with temperatures nudging thirty degrees centigrade.
On site facilities include laundry, pot wash, toilets, showers and chemical disposal point. The shower block was clean but the facilities were not as modern as on some sites we have visited. WiFi and an on site restaurant are also available at Camping Bagatelle. There was a snack bar of sorts on site, although we could n’t work out if it was closed or derelict!
Some large pitches available at Camping Bagatelle
This is quite a large site with well over 200 pitches of various sizes. The site staff do try to match pitch sizes to unit sizes. I did see a coach conversion on site, indicating certain pitches would be able to accommodate an RV.
One slight drawback that we found was the rather unusual lack of fresh water taps around the site – I did not find any and neither did our Dutch neighbours! That said, we did n’t need any more water anyway.
The site is clearly signed once you are in Avignon. The river and the bridge will act as a land mark.
The site is ideally located for exploring old Avignon. The web details are here. ACSI users will note the site is a member of the ACSI scheme, so some good discounts are available in the lower seasons.
