Whilst travelling from the west towards Innsbruck, we had originally planned to stay on a site to the south of the city, but stumbled upon Camping Kranebitterhof by chance, located just off the B171 road. Reception was closed on arrival but the campsite is part of/owned by an adjacent hotel where booking in takes place.

The site is elevated and some pitches are reached via a steep access road. The pitches, though, are level and are cut into the hill! Take care accessing and leaving the site – the access road is steep. Due to this, there is a  risk of grounding or bottoming out.

On site facilities at Camping Kranebitterhof

  • 16 amps electric hook up to each pitch (unmetered)
  • Fresh water tap at every pitch
  • Waste/grey water point at every pitch
  • All hardstand pitching area
  • Laundry/tumble dryers
  • Pot wash
  • Childrens play area
  • Bar/restaurant on site
  • Free wifi

From the site, there are some “more than pleasant” views of the nearby mountains, snow-covered at present. On the down side, the elevated aspect of the site will not suit all and there is some aircraft noise from the nearby Innsbruck airport. However, flights are not too frequent and the airport does not appear to have “night flights.”

Walking and cycling to Innsbruck city centre is easy from Camping Kranebitterhof

There is a bus stop a few minutes walk from the site entrance, so you can be transported into Innsbruck with ease. The walk into the city is flat and easy and you can follow a path alongside the River Inn. The walk to Innsbruck took us about one hour, walking at a reasonable pace along the level path. This is also a cycle route to the city.

Noting that motorhomes do not appear to be welcome in Innsbruck city centre, then this site is one of the closest to this Tyrolean city. Camping Kranebitterhof is open all year round and details of pricing is available here.
