( votes)Very rarely do we have an overnight stop between the Alsace and the channel port. However, on this occasion, the ACSI guide led us to Camping Spineuse, just over a mile from the pretty Belgian town of Neufchateau. Directions from the ACSI book were spot on. Accessing the site via a private lane, we entered our own little paradise – what a gem of a find this turned out to me.
First impressions showed the site to be immaculately presented, with the grassed areas looking like Wimbledon at the start of the tournament. We asked about the availability of two pitches. The owner was very apologetic, stating that due to the recent heavy rains the grass was water-logged, but we could pitch on the gravel roadway between the pitches. This was no problem at all to us.
All staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming, with an excellent level of English being spoken.
Once pitched up, we hooked up and settled in.
Camping Spineuse – “home from home”.
The following facilities were available on site
- Toilets/washroom – absolutely spotless
- FREE wifi
- Motorhome service point
- All grass pitches with 6 or 16 amps electric
- Childrens’ play area
- Pool
- Bar/bistro
- Friendly “wildlife” – ducks and tame rabbits
Nearby, is the “Lac du Chateauneuf”, with a pleasant perimeter walk and also sporting opportunities for those that wish.
In the evening, we decided to visit the on site bistro at Camping Spineuse and for less than sixty euro we had:
- Two steaks cooked to our liking
- Chips
- Vegetables
- Side salad
- Ice cream desert
- Two beers
- Two glasses of red wine.
The meal was plentiful and of good quality.
Spineuse Camping is located just a few miles from the motorway connecting Belgium and Luxembourg and as such, makes this a great “transit stop”. The website gives opening dates and prices – click here.
One thing worth mentioning – I had the best and most peaceful night’s sleep in a long time. Hardly surprising in these idyllic surroundings.
Thank you very much for visiting us on our campsite. Looking forward to see you again. Many greatings from Camping Spineuse Neufchateau.
What a great review and such a lovely looking place! As my partner is Belgian and we are collecting our Morelo 93 from a German dealer in about 10 days we will be sure to visit on our way back to the UK. Is it open this time of year?

A campsite as many used to be – close to nature, natural surroundings and a mix of camping units. Run by a friendly and helpful English-speaking couple, its location is great, just off a popular toll-free route between Calais and Luxembourg (cheap diesel), a handy distance from Calais and in an area not well-served by decent aires and value campsites (ACSI here). It can take large units, though for the biggest the trees between entrance and first pitches could usefully be trimmed back. They had had a lot of rain when we arrived so many pitches were very wet, but where needed the pitches benefited from a structural plastic support that the grass grows through. We are 8.8m long and 7.5 tonnes, but were fine on the first row of pitches beyond reception. Satellite was good on these, too, which won’t be the case for some pitches given the abundance of lovely trees. Families will love it with much to keep children active. Free wifi, spacious & clean showers and a bar/bistro which also serves takeaway food. A very relaxing feel to the site.
Thanks for taking the time to add such a detailed review.
