( votes)Another of the CCC’s sites was next upon my itinerary as I started to make my way north. The Camping and Caravaning Club Hereford is located just of the A438, between the pretty town of Ledbury and the county town of Hereford.
From the main road, I drove a short distance along a tree-lined route to reach the site. I was given a friendly welcome from the staff on duty. I noted that the reception area also doubles as a shop. On sale there is local produce such as meat, eggs, chutney and locally made cream cakes. Fresh bread was also available during my visit. Newspapers are available to order. I was shown to a hard standing pitch and whilst driving around the site, I noticed the site was quite busy despite being mid-week.
The Camping and Caravanning Club Hereford offers a selection of pitches – grass, grass with service (electrical hook up) and hard standing pitches with service. Fresh water taps are conveniently placed around the site, as are grey water disposal points. The chemical disposal point is adjacent to the main facility block and it’s design would permit an American RV to “pump out” as required.
On site facilities at the Camping and Caravanning Club Hereford
The usual array of facilities are available at the Camping and Caravanning Club Hereford. These include pot wash area, motorhome service point, laundry and a heated shower/toilet block. I think this is the first site in the UK that I have stayed on where there is music in the loo! The only other site I can recall offering this feature is Camping Tiber in Rome. Another unusual feature at Hereford is the provision of WiFi. WiFi is not so unusual in itself, but unusual in so far as the WiFi service is free to campers – yes – FREE! Dogs are welcome on site and pet exercise areas are provided.
A fish and chip van visits the site once per week.
The Camping and Caravanning Club Hereford is known locally as “The Millpond”. This gives a clue to the next feature of the site – a stocked fishing lake. Day and evening tickets are available from reception. Those who are not interesting in fishing may simply enjoy a stroll around the lake.
Camping and Caravanning Club Hereford – entertainment
The site team plan various events throughout the year such as an “alternative dog show” in July and also an end of season bonfire in November. Contact the site directly on 01432 890243 for details of these and other planned events. The site is busy hence it is worth booking in advance.
There is a local bus service operating to Hereford and Ledbury. Both are well worthy of a visit with Ledbury the more pretty of the two, whilst Hereford offers a wider selection of shopping facilities in addition to the cathedral and other historic buildings such as the town hall. Dog owners should note that dogs are not permitted on the local bus service.
Set in the Herfordshire countryside, the Camping and Caravanning Club Hereford makes for a peaceful and relaxing stay. Site details and price are on the CCC website.
