Not really sure whether November 26th classes as winter or autumn. In either case, Lake Garda is a preferable location to the UK at this time of year.
Generally speaking, Lake Garda closes as far as tourists are concerned in late September, with a few campsites staying open throughout October. At this time of year, winter camping at Garda is possible only in Lazise at Camping Amici. There are however a couple of “camper stops” that are also available all year round. Garda will never be a place to over winter in the way that thousands flock to Spain, but our experience of weather on this trip is typical of our previous winter visits – frosty and very cold at night, with mild and pleasant days – with plenty of sun!
Moniga del Garda has a busy port/marina and it is this that seems to ensure that some of the port side bars and restaurants remain open all year around. A meal out at this time of year is a different kettle of fish than dining out in the summer. Staff have time to serve you and sort out the order etc, rather than being snowed under!
Our three night halt at Lake Garda has been a time for laundry, local shopping/groceries and peaceful relaxing walks along the lake side.
We spent eight years visiting Lago del Garda in the Balkan war years en route to Tuscany and further south homing in on Peschiera and spending much time in our favourite Italian city, Verona. Simione, brings back more fond memories too.
Hi Russell,
Rita and I have never been to Italy at all, but the image of lake Garda looks absolutely stunning. Glad to hear that your Aire experience wasn’t an unpleasant one. There are many to be found in beautiful and pleasant locations.
Safe travels,
Jock & Rita.
Looking good Russell, lovely blue skies, wish we were there. Enjoy.
