As a further update, Motorhome Voyager has today (10th January 2018), received details of a new, second motorhome parking area in the Lytham St Annes area – please tab down to the “comments” section at the end of this review, particularly the information provided by Fylde Borough Council. Three more cheers for Fylde BC!
Further update – April 2019 – public toilets to be constructed at the second motorhome parking area – read the “comments” at the end of this post for full details, direct from Fylde Borough Council
We had a day at the coast this week, albeit by car rather than “avec le camping car”. We parked up at St Annes on Sea, just a couple of miles south of Blackpool. St Anne’s is a much quieter resort and we had gone there with the intention of having lunch and a walk on the prom etc.
We parked up at a Toby Carvery and were shocked to find a pay and display car park in operation. However the first £2 of the ticket was refunded off the cost of the bill. Fair enough, given this Toby is a sea front location.
Whilst walking around, we spotting a sign for overnight motorhome parking.
Motorhome parking St Annes on Sea – location
For a payment of £5, you can park, and stay overnight, from 1800 – 1000 a.m. the following day. There are no facilities such as fresh or waste water, but this “aire” seems to be in a quiet location. The location is behind the cinema, near the Toby, right on the sea front and close to the swimming pool. It is set back from the main promenade and any road noise is “blocked” by the cinema and swimming pool building. The motorhome parking is behind the buildings and so the motorhomes are “out of sight” of the local residents.
***Update – waste water provision located approximately 500 metres away. There is a free parking spot for 20 minutes adjacent to the sluice***
A little further investigation found this link on the Fylde Borough Council website in reference to motorhome parking. Note that Fylde Borough Council does not cover Blackpool – this is covered by Blackpool Borough Council! Please also read the “motorhome overnight parking pilot report”. It seems the scheme has been a success to date and the it must be noted that Fylde Borough Council has spent a fair bit of money “behind the scenes” to make this overnight provision possible.
Note also the free coach parking at St Annes – another gesture by the council to welcome visitors but please note I am not suggesting motorhomes park in the coach bay!
Now just up the road, we have Blackpool. A quick look on the Blackpool Borough Council website reveals where motorhomes can park. A call to the parking office detailed the coach parking areas and also the tariff – but, you cannot stay in the vehicle. I was advised of a £10 tariff for 24 hours parking, but the council employee repeated the fact about not remaining in the vehicle.
Blackpool council looks after the area from Starr Gate (near the old Pontins) towards Anchorsholme on the north shore. Here, Wyre council takes over and controls the area to Fleetwood. Wyre council website does not offer and specific information but a quick call on 01253 891000 seems to suggest that they have no overnight facilities but you can park a motorhome in a car park, but pay for the number of spaces occupied.
So, it seems a “well done” to Fylde Borough Council. Let’s hope some of the other coastal councils follow suit.
If you are a fan of aires, this book is worthy of a read. It covers 27 countries with clear information about each parking location.

Yes Russell, a few of your Motorhoming pals were active on the Fylde Borough Council forums, on the Motorhome Parking, including Mavis and myself. 🙂
Cheers,
Jock.
It would be good if Blackpool and also Wyre would get onboard with this. It’s actually tempting me to head over that way for a couple of nights. My mates were “ticketed” on the prom in Blackpool even though it was “off season”.
Us too Jock!
Good info here – we used the parking area, very peaceful and another copule of ‘vans alongside. Hope it pays off. I did not think it would have cost anything for the council but the article puts it all in perspective. Regards
Thank you for such an accurate account of the facilities. We have used this site a few times and it encourages us to visit the area and support the community. I real hope it is a sucess and hope it is extended.
Hi, I’ve just read your post about the pilot scheme for overnight parking at St Anne’s on Sea, what a refreshing read. I visited the website via your link and read the council report and it seems there is more to follow. Excellent news so thanks for letting us all know.
I also emailed the council and complimented them on the scheme. I think if more of us gave positive feedback then we’d get more done, as we’re not a nation of people known for thanking our councils.
Keep up the good work and thanks again.

Yes, I agree. I contacted FBC a few months ago to acknowledge their efforts. I will send them a copy of this article too. Thanks for taking the time to drop me a line.
Russell asked me earlier today to provide an update on this scheme:
Following the end of our tourist summer season, we initiated some planned engineering works on the lower section of St Annes Swimming Pool Car Park where motorhomes are allowed to park overnight. These works included the removal of the ramp at the far end of the car park and the retaining walls and surface being made-good. 11 of the standard bays were removed from the surface with 7 over-sized bays, each 8m long, being put in place. These bays are designed to be used by any over-sized vehicle and would be suitable for most motorhomes. This will enable those who wish to stay during the day to only pay to occupy a single bay instead of paying for as many as the vehicle occupies.
In addition to this we have removed the condition that vehicles can not park on the sea-ward side to enable smaller motorhomes (5m and under) to park in this area as well. All the other previous conditions still apply, eg during the day if you are parked in a location where your vehicle is over more than one bay then you will need to obtain tickets for those additional bays.
Looking to the future I am hopeful that we will be able to start the process of improving our pay and display machines in the next financial year. Ideally this will offer visitors alternative methods of payment instead of requiring at least £5 of change to put into the machine.
I hope this information is of interest

Just to add to my previous update. Since the start of April we have changed/improved the tariff levels that are available which should help those wanting to stay for multiple days. The single £5 overnight fee (6pm to 10am) remains. Added to this is a one day (9am to 10am the following morning) ticket for £8, up to 2 days £15 and up to 3 days £21. All multi-day tickets expire at 10am on the final day.
These additional tariffs have been fairly successful so far with the main issue being that the payment machines only accept coins – surprisingly some people have managed to obtain the 3 day ticket without coins being ‘jack-potted’ out. We are currently working towards the introduction of alternative payment methods, particularly chip and pin and wave and pay options, though these will be installed during the winter at the earliest.
Thank you for all your previous positive comments, they are greatly appreciated.

Andrew, many thanks for the further updates. I’ll pass the word onto other motorhome websites. Blackpool’s loss is St Anne’s gain!
we spent a couple of nights at st Anne,s .Fantastic to find that we could legaly stay only at £8 per day.We enjoyed shopping and eating out but were amazed that no other Motorhomes were there .Hopefully ither town councills will follow the same way. Thank you Lytham st Anne,s..
Steer clear of Blacpool if you drive a motorhome. You cannot park on the promenade even if it is empty in winter. I spend my money in St Annes or Fleetwood now where it is free to park and they welcome tourist. Blackpool is now on a par with Torquay and Paington where the council are so short sighted that tourist are no longer welcome. We used to spend many a winter afternoon shopping in Blackpool but now avoid it like the plague
Thanks for your comments about St Annes. Our friends were “ticketed” in winter in Blackpool too. They don’t go there now, and like you, it’s St Annes
Do you have any info to share about parking in Fleetwood?
What a fantastic initiative by Fylde Borough Council. All to often Councils get a bad press for parking charges (often deserved) but it is refreshing to see that motorhomes are being catered for at a very reasonable charge for overnight stays. This will boost the local economy and be very welcomed by many tourists. Well done Andrew Loynd!
Prices are not too bad. How close to Blackpool is it? Can you normally guarantee getting a place or does it get full in high season?
This is great news and just what we want in the UK. Bugger off Blackpool, we have found somewhere to go that’s far nicer and more welcoming. You ticketed us last time for being 13 minutes over on our overpriced ticket so as stated above – Blackpool’s loss is St Anne’s gain. We like it and had not even considered it before.
Thankyou to the council man too.
We’re very interested in using this aire. However, does anyone know where we can get drinking water nearby? We’d be there for 3 days, so need a decent amount. We can’t fill up before leaving, sadly…
Hi – I do not think there is a water facility there, but fill up at a petrol station or motorway service area?
Lots going in St Annes and Lytham this summer. We have a Kite Festival and the Lytham Proms., a Wartime weekend, concerts at the Lowther Pavilion… the usual carnival and farmers markets.
see: http://www.visitlythamstannes.co.uk/whats-on
Wood St (and adjacent streets in St Annes is in walking distance if you want to drink) has many good restaurants – Greek, Italian, Turkish, Japanese, Indian, Chinese, British Pub Steakhouse, classic St Annes Fish Restaurant (ignoring the pizza kebab takeaways).
And of course the cinema where you are parked.
Thank you for contacting us about up and coming events. I have added a link to the “what’s on” website.
We like the bowling alley next to the Toby Carvery – great value for only a pound.
Thank you for contacting the Motorhome Voyager.
As an update on this scheme, please note that our car park prices were reviewed early in 2017 and resulted in an increase in most parking charges. As such it now costs £5.30 for overnight parking (6pm to 10am), £8.40 for up to all day parking (9am until 10am the following day), £15.80 for up to 2 days and £22 for up to 3 days.
On a separate issue, a liquid waste disposal point has been in operation for just over a year on North Promenade Car Park within the public WCs, about 500m North of St Annes Swimming Pool Car Park where this scheme is located. A single bay has been provided for motorhomes next to the public WCs which allows 20 minutes free parking to allow time to empty your waste water/foul cassettes. There is a charge of £1 to use this facility.
Finally, you may wish to know that in the next couple of months a new overnight parking location for motorhomes at North Beach Car Park will be provided on a one year pilot. This is a quieter location on the edge of a sand dune SSSI and has access to a sand beach with neighbouring residential properties. Spaces at this location will be limited to a set area of the car park. Prices will be lower than at St Annes Swimming Pool Car Park in light of the more remote nature of the location.

Excellent information, thank you. We will look forward to visiting the new location soon – please keep us posted as to the opening date etc.
Fantastic news
Is it the car park where you get water and empty your waste
Good news for us motorhomers.
Would there be anyway you could provide a water tap ,please
great to here you are opening another car park to motorhomes, have been to the swimming pool parking many times. Some of the other seaside towns treat us like lepers
All, thanks for taking the time to get in touch with the Motorhome Voyager. I will continue to ensure your comments are passed on to Fylde Borough Council. I think we all agree, FBC has done more for motorhomers in the last few years than most other councils put together
Thank you all for your support over the last few years of the facilities provided at St Annes Swimming Pool Car Park. I can now confirm that as of 29th March Fylde Council will allow overnight motorhome parking for up to 10 motorhomes in specifed bays on North Beach Car Park (not the same location as the sluice unit on North Promenade Car Park) for a trial period.
The charges for this location will be lower than the current facilities at St Annes Swimming Pool Car Park. £4 overnight (6pm to 10am), £7 for 1 day (9am to 10am the following day), £14 for 2 days and £20 for 3 days.
North Beach Car Park is a quieter location than our existing facility. A sandy beach and a sand dune SSSI/Biological Heritage Site can be accessed immediately from the car park.
Thank you for your continuing support.

Many thanks for the update.
Further to last year’s update regarding our new motorhome overnight parking scheme at North Beach Car Park, with no reported issues during the course of the trial period, this location has now been made permanent. Thank you for all who visited. Please note that the maximum number of motorhomes allowed to park over night is limited to 10. I have seen on other forum threads that individuals have said it is okay for more than this to stay, which is incorrect.
With regards future plans, at the North Beach Car Park location funding has been approved for a new public WC facility to be built. This will include a sluice unit and other features that may be of benefit to motorhomers. It is hoped that this will be in place by next March.

Andrew, this is a fantastic update.
Glad my home town is fore-running a decent scheme for Motorhome owners. Europe has got a grip on this … we need uk to do the same. We spend our pennies in your town if we visit
Fantastic news and big thumbs up. A safe and great place to stopover. Its a pity that more councils are not as welcoming and progressive and in these difficult times we always support the local businesses.
Absolutely. We spend cash in various businesses ranging from the Toby Carvery to the Amusements on the pier. These types of stopover are good news for the local economy.
Such great news as said before big thanks to them.
Let’s hope the minority will not spoil it for us all .
Well done Fylde! I feel a visit is due.
Stopped overnight at St Annes and loved it, We will be back, and will definitely be stopping at Lytham . Great news.
I stayed there twice last year and it was great.
I will be back in September for my RAF reunion.
Well done Fylde Council!
I’ve just been for a walk past here and noticed a sign on the car park for a consultation. Looks like they want to change what they are offering. It had a QR code that went to https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=5QJ9_HG9WU6G9o11mEvkqXurUui9vWpDlAK-B9GPj49UOUVGQkcxRU5TWVVXRjQ0OTI5S0ZWOTM4RC4u.
Thank you for this information.
It’s now £15 a camper for up to 24 hours even if you don’t stay overnight just the day, you still have to pay £15.
The main tariff sign has been taped over the original prices with new, only for campers though. Nice £10 increase Fylde!
I only parked for 5 mins some car park guy was staring at my ticket on my windscreen.
