Toll free route to Montpellier, onwards to Nice

Montpellier, Marseilles and Nice are popular destinations for many British motorhomers and caravanners. However, the motorway tolls on some of the routes can make the cost of the journey prohibitive. However, you can make good cost savings by using the A75 as part of the toll free route to Montpellier. Journey times may be longer than motorway routes, but the cost savings are vast.

From Calais, it’s a toll-free run to Boulogne and then head for Beauvais – clearly signposted. On then towards Paris – maybe a convenient overnight stop on your toll free route to Nice! Southwards again towards Orleans, then Gien, St Pourcain sur Sioule and onto the toll free A75 from Clermont Ferrand. The A75 motorway is toll free with the exception of the Millau Viaduct. For many, the Millau Viaduct is an attraction in itself on the toll free route to Nice, but you can avoid the cost of crossing the viaduct by detouring into Millau. Millau offers a selection of campsites and also, for the motorist, various hotels. There are numerous shops, supermarkets and of course the chance to top up with supermarket priced diesel. The toll cost for the Millau Viaduct is almost 30 euro for a tag axle motorhome.

From Millau back on to the A75 and then southeast  towards Montpellier on the toll free A750 motorway. Once at Montpellier, you could continue toll free towards Avignon or Nice and the Cote D’Azur!

Toll free route to Montpellier – the cost savings

The toll free route to Montpellier is also a useful “starter for ten” if heading toll free to the Spanish Costas. To put this route into context, a run from Calais to Montpellier via the “peage” costs approximately ninety euro for a Class 2 toll and double this for a Class 4 toll!

You can check the toll costs by clicking on this link to the Autoroutes website.
